Marriott STARS Program: VIP Benefits, Hotel List & Booking Guide 2026
Marriott STARS is Marriott's invitation-only travel-advisor program offering VIP perks at six luxury brands: The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, Bulgari, The Luxury Collection, and Ritz-Carlton Reserve. As an authorized Marriott STARS partner, Stars Desk books the same standard rates as Marriott.com - with breakfast for two, $100 hotel credit, room upgrades, and personalized VIP recognition layered on top.
Request Your Marriott STARS Rate →What Is the Marriott STARS Program?
Marriott STARS is one of two invitation-only preferred-partner programs run by Marriott International for elite luxury travel advisors. Guests who book through a Marriott STARS-credentialed agency such as Stars Desk receive exclusive benefits at no additional cost: complimentary daily breakfast for two, a $100 property credit, room upgrades subject to availability, and personalized VIP recognition. These perks are layered on top of any Marriott Bonvoy elite benefits the guest already qualifies for.
STARS sits within Marriott's broader luxury travel-advisor ecosystem. Marriott runs a sister program called Marriott Luminous, which covers premium and lifestyle brands such as JW Marriott, Westin, and W Hotels. The two programs serve different brand tiers but use the same booking mechanism: an authorized advisor places the reservation at the standard or flexible rate, and Marriott honors the STARS or Luminous perks at check-in.
Six Marriott STARS Brands Explained
Every property within these six brands participates in Marriott STARS automatically. Unlike the Luminous program, individual STARS hotels cannot opt out - every guest booking through a STARS advisor receives the full benefit package.
The Ritz-Carlton
105 propertiesMarriott's flagship luxury brand. Ritz-Carlton does not offer complimentary breakfast to Bonvoy elites at any tier - STARS is the only way most guests will receive it. The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection also honors STARS perks on voyages.
St. Regis
55 propertiesSignature butler service and old-world luxury. STARS perks stack with St. Regis's existing breakfast benefit for Bonvoy elites - guests still receive the $100 credit, upgrades, and welcome amenity.
The Luxury Collection
92 propertiesNearly 100 distinctive hotels and resorts - historic palaces, designer hideaways, and one-of-a-kind properties from Italy's Costa Smeralda to Japan's Kyoto.
EDITION
18 propertiesIan Schrager's design sensibility paired with Marriott operations. EDITION does not offer complimentary breakfast to Bonvoy elites - STARS adds breakfast plus the $100 credit and upgrades.
Bulgari Hotels & Resorts
9 propertiesBVLGARI is not part of the Marriott Bonvoy points and elite program. This makes Marriott STARS uniquely valuable here - it is the only way for guests to receive structured VIP perks at Bulgari hotels.
Ritz-Carlton Reserve
8 propertiesEight ultra-exclusive private estates. Like Bulgari, Ritz-Carlton Reserve does not participate in Marriott Bonvoy for points or elite benefits, which makes STARS the only structured perk layer available.
Six Marriott STARS Benefits at Every Eligible Stay
The Marriott STARS benefit package is uniform across all participating brands - there is no minimum stay requirement, and benefits apply to every qualifying reservation, even one-night stays.
Complimentary Daily Breakfast for Two
Full or continental breakfast for up to two guests per room, daily, included in the rate. At Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, and Bulgari, this is a benefit that is not given to even top-tier Bonvoy elites.
$100 Hotel Credit Per Stay
A USD 100 property credit valid once per stay. Unlike Virtuoso credits, which are often restricted to spa or food and beverage, the Marriott STARS credit can be used on almost any eligible incidental - dining, spa, mini-bar, laundry, or curated experiences.
Room Upgrade
One room-category upgrade subject to availability at check-in. STARS bookings are typically prioritized for upgrades alongside top-tier Bonvoy elites.
Personalized Welcome & VIP Recognition
An in-person welcome from a hotel manager or director, plus a personalized welcome amenity and handwritten note. This is the recognition layer that signals to property staff that the guest is a priority VIP.
Early Check-in & Late Check-out
Subject to availability - but with STARS recognition flagged on the reservation, the hotel is materially more likely to accommodate non-standard times.
Complimentary Wi-Fi
Basic Wi-Fi included for the duration of the stay. Most Marriott properties already offer this - STARS guarantees it.
Direct Booking vs. Stars Desk Marriott STARS Booking
The Marriott STARS rate is the same as the standard or flexible rate guests would find on Marriott.com - Stars Desk does not charge a booking fee, and there is no rate premium.
| Booking feature | Direct booking | Stars Desk Marriott STARS |
|---|---|---|
| Best available rate | ✔ | ✔ + VIP Perks Included |
| Room upgrade (subject to availability) | ✘ | ✔ |
| Complimentary daily breakfast for two | ✘ | ✔ |
| Early check-in / Late check-out | ✘ | ✔ |
| $100 hotel / resort credit per stay | ✘ | $100 |
| Personalized welcome & VIP recognition | ✘ | ✔ |
| Booking fee | $0 | $0 |
| Marriott Bonvoy points & elite night credits | ✔ | ✔ (same as direct) |
| Dedicated luxury travel advisor | ✘ | ✔ |
Marriott STARS + Bonvoy Elite Stacking
Marriott STARS bookings count as qualifying stays for the Marriott Bonvoy program - guests earn the same points and elite night credits as a direct booking. The interaction with Bonvoy elite benefits varies by brand:
| Scenario | Net value to STARS booking |
|---|---|
| Bonvoy Platinum, Titanium, or Ambassador staying at Ritz-Carlton or EDITION | High value - Bonvoy elites do not receive complimentary breakfast at these brands; STARS adds breakfast plus the $100 credit. |
| Bonvoy elite at St. Regis or Luxury Collection | Moderate value - elites already receive breakfast (via lounge or restaurant); STARS adds the $100 credit, welcome amenity, and additional upgrade consideration. |
| Any guest at Bulgari or Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Maximum value - these brands do not participate in Bonvoy elite benefits at all; STARS is the only structured perk path. |
| Upgrade priority among multiple Platinum-tier elites | STARS bookings are typically prioritized alongside top-tier elites. Final upgrade decisions remain at the hotel's discretion, but the recognition flag carries weight. |
Marriott STARS vs Marriott Luminous vs Virtuoso
Travelers comparing luxury booking programs across Marriott properties typically face this three-way decision. Each program has its place.
| Feature | Marriott STARS | Marriott Luminous | Virtuoso |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brands covered | 6 luxury brands (Ritz-Carlton, St Regis, EDITION, Bulgari, Luxury Collection, RC Reserve) | 8 premium & lifestyle brands (W, JW, Westin, Autograph, Le Méridien, Marriott, Renaissance, Tribute) | Luxury hotels across many chains (Mandarin, Aman, Belmond, some Marriott) |
| Mandatory participation by individual hotels | Yes (all STARS hotels included) | No (hotels can opt out) | No (hotel-by-hotel) |
| Complimentary breakfast for two | ✔ (all) | ✔ (where participating) | ✔ (typically) |
| $100 hotel credit | ✔ (universal, flexible use) | Hotel choice - most opt out | Spa OR F&B (rarely both) |
| Earns Marriott Bonvoy points & elite credits | ✔ | ✔ | ✔ (when at Marriott) |
| Best at Ritz-Carlton, Bulgari, EDITION | ✔ (best choice) | N/A | Some properties only |
| Best at JW Marriott, W, Westin | N/A | ✔ (when participating) | Some properties |
Stars Desk holds both Marriott STARS and Virtuoso credentials, which means we book whichever rate adds the most value at each property - and if both apply, the Marriott STARS rate is generally preferred because the $100 credit is uniformly available and the upgrade priority signals are stronger within Marriott's own ecosystem.
Marriott STARS vs Hyatt Privé vs Four Seasons Preferred Partner
Each major luxury hotel group runs its own advisor program. The benefits are similar on the surface, but each program has distinct mechanics.
| Program | Hotels | Hotel credit | Breakfast | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marriott STARS | Ritz-Carlton, St Regis, EDITION, Bulgari, Luxury Collection, RC Reserve | $100, flexible | Yes | Marriott luxury portfolio |
| Hyatt Privé | Park Hyatt, Andaz, Alila, Miraval, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency (select) | $100 typical (varies) | Yes | Hyatt luxury portfolio |
| Four Seasons Preferred Partner | Four Seasons hotels and resorts | $100 in property currency | Yes | Four Seasons exclusively |
| Rosewood Elite | Rosewood hotels and resorts | $100 typical | Yes | Rosewood exclusively |

What Rates Qualify for Marriott STARS Benefits?
Marriott STARS perks apply only when booking the standard or flexible rate that appears on Marriott.com as the unrestricted rate. The following rates do not qualify:
- Member-only rates (Marriott Bonvoy members exclusive)
- Advance-purchase or prepaid non-refundable rates
- Points redemptions and Cash + Points
- Most promotional or discount rates
- Group or convention rates
- Government, AAA, AARP, or military rates
The Marriott STARS rate is typically identical to the standard flexible rate - guests do not pay a premium for the perks. Stars Desk can verify rate eligibility at the time of inquiry.
Earning Marriott Bonvoy Points & Elite Credits
Marriott STARS bookings are considered qualifying stays for the Marriott Bonvoy program, treated identically to direct bookings:
- Full base points and applicable elite-tier bonus points
- Elite night credits toward Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador status
- Promotional bonus eligibility (e.g., quarterly Bonvoy promotions)
- Lifetime night credit
The booking is placed using the guest's Bonvoy number, so all earning happens automatically. The only exception is at Bulgari Hotels & Resorts and Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which do not participate in Marriott Bonvoy at all - at these brands, STARS still provides VIP perks, but no Bonvoy points or elite credits are earned.

Marriott STARS: Frequently Asked Questions
Marriott STARS is Marriott International's invitation-only preferred-partner program for elite luxury travel advisors. Guests who book through a Marriott STARS-credentialed agency such as Stars Desk receive exclusive benefits - complimentary daily breakfast for two, a $100 hotel credit, a room upgrade subject to availability, in-person welcome, personalized welcome amenity, and complimentary Wi-Fi - at no extra cost.
Six brands: The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, The Luxury Collection, and Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Every property within these six brands participates automatically - there are no opt-outs. STARS perks also apply on Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection voyages.
Daily complimentary breakfast for two; $100 hotel credit per stay; one-category room upgrade subject to availability; in-person welcome from hotel management; personalized welcome amenity and note; complimentary Wi-Fi; priority on waitlists and special room requests; early check-in and late check-out subject to availability.
No. There is no minimum length of stay. STARS benefits apply to every qualifying reservation, including one-night stays.
Yes - in most cases. STARS perks can typically be combined with third-night-free promotions, resort credit packages, and seasonal offers. Stars Desk verifies combinability at the time of booking. STARS does not stack with member-only rates, advance-purchase rates, or points redemptions.
Possibly. If your existing reservation is on a flexible rate and is not prepaid, your Stars Desk advisor may be able to rebook with STARS benefits applied or contact the hotel to add them retroactively. Exceptions are handled case-by-case - contact Stars Desk to check.
No. Stars Desk does not charge a booking fee, and the Marriott STARS rate is the same as the standard flexible rate on Marriott.com. The benefits are included at no additional cost.
No - Marriott STARS rates are not available directly on Marriott.com. They are reserved exclusively for bookings placed through credentialed advisors. Some authorized advisors maintain online portals (such as TravelWits) where verified clients can book STARS rates directly, but the booking is still routed through the advisor's account.
Yes. STARS bookings are considered qualifying stays for the Marriott Bonvoy program - guests earn the same base points, elite bonus points, and elite night credits as a direct booking. The only exception is at Bulgari Hotels & Resorts and Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which do not participate in Bonvoy at all.
Yes. Bonvoy elite status is recognized in addition to STARS benefits. At Ritz-Carlton and EDITION, where elite members do not receive complimentary breakfast, STARS fills that gap. At St. Regis and Luxury Collection, where elites already receive breakfast, the $100 credit and additional upgrade consideration remain valuable. STARS bookings are also prioritized for upgrades alongside top-tier elites.
The standard or flexible rate listed on Marriott.com. Member-only rates, advance-purchase prepaid rates, points redemptions, Cash + Points, government/AAA/AARP/military rates, and most promotional rates do not qualify. The STARS rate is typically identical to the flexible rate - no premium.
Both programs offer breakfast and upgrades. STARS adds a $100 credit that is flexible (dining, spa, mini-bar, laundry), while Virtuoso credits are typically restricted to either spa or food & beverage but not both. STARS is mandatory at all six STARS brands - Virtuoso participation is hotel-by-hotel. Stars Desk holds both credentials and books whichever adds the most value.
STARS covers six luxury brands (Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, Bulgari, Luxury Collection, Ritz-Carlton Reserve) and every property participates automatically. Luminous covers eight premium and lifestyle brands (JW Marriott, W, Westin, Autograph Collection, Le Méridien, Marriott Hotels, Renaissance, Tribute Portfolio) - but individual properties can opt out, and the $100 credit at Luminous hotels is optional (most properties do not offer it). STARS is materially more consistent.
Yes. STARS perks apply to Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection voyages, though the specific benefits differ from hotel stays. For yacht-specific STARS benefits, please contact Stars Desk directly.
STARS is intentionally limited to Marriott's six ultra-luxury brands. Marriott's premium and lifestyle brands (JW Marriott, Westin, W, etc.) sit within the separate Marriott Luminous program. Limited-service brands (Courtyard, Residence Inn, etc.) do not participate in either program.
The room upgrade is one category up from the booked room type, subject to availability at check-in. To maximize upgrade odds: book a flexible-rate STARS booking well in advance; communicate special occasions (anniversary, milestone birthday) at the time of booking; arrive at a reasonable check-in time; and consider booking a lower category to give the hotel more upgrade flexibility.
Stars Desk has priority on waitlists for sold-out STARS properties. We can also suggest comparable alternatives within the same brand and destination - and arrange waivers for late cancellation or no-show situations on a case-by-case basis where applicable.
Submit the request form below or call Stars Desk at 201-873-4114. A dedicated advisor will respond within 24 hours with Marriott STARS rates, room recommendations, and any current property-specific offers.
