A Royal Heritage

Delight in antique-style marquetry, vintage lighting and heritage upholstery — with history evident at every turn. Each carriage carries its own extraordinary story, many connected to British royalty and Heads of State.

Brighton Belle · 1940

Audrey

Repaired after WWII and rejoined the Brighton Belle in 1947. In 1953 carried Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother. Transported the Queen to Sussex University in 1964.

First Class · 1928

Zena

Built as a First Class parlour car in 1928, serving the Queen of Scots and Yorkshire Pullman post-WWII, then the Golden Arrow until 1960.

Brighton Belle · 1940

Vera

Carried Prince Charles and Princess Anne on their first electric train journey in 1954. Preserved as a garden house in Suffolk after the Brighton Belle's withdrawal in 1972.

Golden Arrow · 1972

Pheonix

A favourite of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother; frequently used by General de Gaulle and visiting Heads of State. Made the final Golden Arrow journey in 1972.

Festival of Britain · 1951

Perseus

Completed in 1951 for the Festival of Britain's Golden Arrow service. Served in Winston Churchill's funeral train in 1965 and the final Golden Arrow journey in 1972.

Golden Arrow · 1927

Minerva

Built in 1927, joined the Devon Belle in 1947 and the Golden Arrow in 1951. Frequently included in special trains for state visits and royal use in the early 1950s.

First Class · 1928

Lucille

Built in 1928 as a First Class parlour car for the Queen of Scots Pullman. Transferred to the Southern Region in 1963 and ran on the Bournemouth Belle until 1967.

Ocean Liner · 1928

Ione

A First Class kitchen car built in 1928. Served on the Ocean Liner services, the Bournemouth Belle, the Queen of Scots, the Golden Arrow and the Talisman until 1968.

Golden Arrow · 1925

Ibis

Built in 1925 by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. Sold to Wagons-Lits for service in Italy, then returned to Britain for Golden Arrow service before joining the Cunard boat trains in 1952.

Brighton Belle · 1948

Gwen

In 1948, Gwen conveyed Queen Elizabeth II to Brighton. Preserved after the Brighton Belle's withdrawal in 1972, later at the Colne Valley Railway, Castle Hedingham.

One of a Kind · 2021

Cygnus, by Wes Anderson

In 2021, acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson reimagined the Cygnus carriage — blending its rich royal history with his signature bold, modern aesthetic. The result is a carriage straight out of one of his films.

Stunningly symmetrical marquetry, pastel-pink ceiling detailing, bold green upholstery and a feast of marquetry depicting sunbeams, clouds, stars and waves — with swan details referencing the carriage's name throughout.
