Marriott Luminous vs. Marriott STARS vs. Marriott Bonvoy
Marriott Luminous and Marriott STARS are two separate preferred-partner programs run by the same company (Marriott International), but they cover different brand tiers:
- Marriott STARS - Marriott's luxury tier: The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, The Luxury Collection, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, and Ritz-Carlton Reserve.
- Marriott Luminous - Marriott's premium and lifestyle brands: W Hotels, JW Marriott, Westin, Marriott Hotels, Renaissance, Le Méridien, Autograph Collection, Tribute Portfolio, Sheraton, Delta, and Gaylord.
- Marriott Bonvoy - Marriott's free consumer loyalty program, open to everyone. It is not the same as Luminous. Luminous benefits stack on top of your Bonvoy status and points.
Both STARS and Luminous can only be booked through an accredited advisor. For the luxury-tier program, see our Marriott STARS page.

Marriott Luminous FAQ
What is the Marriott Luminous program?
Marriott Luminous is Marriott International's invitation-only preferred-partner program for accredited travel advisors. Booking a Luminous rate through a partner agency such as Stars Desk gives guests VIP benefits - daily breakfast for two, room upgrades, a welcome amenity, and more - at Marriott's premium and lifestyle brands, without any added booking cost.
What benefits are included with Marriott Luminous?
Typical benefits include daily breakfast for two, a one-category room upgrade (subject to availability), early check-in and late checkout, a personalized welcome amenity, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a US$100 property credit at participating hotels. You also continue to earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits because the stay is booked directly with Marriott.
Does every Luminous hotel offer the US$100 credit?
No. The US$100 credit is an optional "Enhanced Program Benefit," and individual Luminous hotels choose whether to offer it - many do not. Stars Desk confirms whether your specific hotel and rate include the credit before you book. Some all-inclusive Luminous resorts offer a larger $50–$600 credit toward dining, spa, or experiences instead.
Is there a minimum stay for Marriott Luminous benefits?
Generally no minimum stay is required. However, a small number of participating hotels may set their own minimum-night requirement; where a hotel requires it, the benefits apply only to stays that meet that minimum. Stars Desk will confirm any such requirement for your chosen property.
Is there any extra cost to book a Marriott Luminous rate?
No. Luminous rates match Marriott's publicly available Best Available (standard flexible) Rate, with the VIP perks included at no extra cost. Stars Desk charges no booking fee, and you pay the hotel directly.
Will I still earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite nights?
Yes. Luminous bookings are treated as direct stays with Marriott, so you earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits, and the reservation appears in your Bonvoy account. Your existing Bonvoy elite benefits also apply and stack with the Luminous perks.
Can Luminous benefits be added to an existing reservation?
Sometimes. If your existing booking is still fully refundable and on an eligible flexible rate, an accredited advisor may be able to rebook it with Luminous benefits. Send Stars Desk your confirmation before the cancellation deadline and keep the original booking in place until the new one is confirmed.
Can I book Marriott Luminous rates myself?
No. Luminous rates can only be booked by an accredited Marriott Luminous travel advisor, who acts as the official liaison to ensure the VIP benefits are applied correctly. Submit your request to Stars Desk and we handle the booking for you.
How is Marriott Luminous different from Marriott STARS?
They are two separate programs run by Marriott International. Marriott STARS covers the luxury brands (The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, The Luxury Collection, Bulgari, and Ritz-Carlton Reserve), while Marriott Luminous covers the premium and lifestyle brands (W Hotels, JW Marriott, Westin, and more). See our Marriott STARS page for the luxury-tier program.
