What is a luxury hotel preferred-partner program?

A preferred-partner program is a relationship between a luxury hotel brand and a small, accredited group of travel advisors. Book a participating hotel through an authorized advisor such as Stars Desk and you pay the brand's standard flexible rate - the same price as booking direct - while receiving VIP benefits the hotel reserves for advisor bookings. It is not a membership you join, a loyalty tier, or a paid club: the perks come from the advisor's standing with the brand, which is why most programs are invitation-only for advisors.

Each luxury brand runs its own version - Four Seasons calls it Preferred Partner, Hyatt calls it Privé, Rosewood calls it Elite, Marriott calls it STARS - but the structure and the value to you are the same.

What benefits do you get?

Benefits vary by brand and property, but most programs include the same core set:

  • Room or suite upgrade - subject to availability; some programs confirm it at booking
  • Daily breakfast for two - full restaurant breakfast per bedroom
  • Property credit - commonly USD 100 toward dining, spa or activities
  • Priority early check-in and late check-out
  • Welcome amenity and VIP recognition throughout the stay
  • Loyalty points and elite-night credit earned in full - these are paid stays

Upgrades, check-in/out timing and credits are subject to availability and vary by program. Your advisor confirms the exact benefit set for each hotel.

Why book through a luxury travel advisor instead of direct?

Booking direct gives you the room. Booking the same rate through a preferred-partner advisor gives you the room plus the upgrade, breakfast, credit and a human who manages the details - room requests, special occasions, and on-property issues handled through a real contact rather than a call center. Because the rate is identical, there is no cost trade-off: the benefits are added value, not a markup.

An advisor also knows which program applies where, how to stack benefits with active hotel promotions, and how to coordinate the program with the loyalty status you already hold.

Luxury Hotel Program FAQs

What is a luxury hotel preferred-partner program?

A preferred-partner program is an arrangement between a luxury hotel brand and a small group of accredited travel advisors. When you book a participating hotel through an authorized advisor such as Stars Desk, you pay the same flexible rate as the hotel's own website but receive added VIP benefits - typically a room upgrade, daily breakfast, a property credit and priority service. It is not a membership you join or a paid club; the perks come from the advisor's relationship with the brand.

How is a preferred-partner rate different from booking the hotel directly?

The nightly rate is the same - programs match the hotel's best flexible rate, so you do not pay more. The difference is what comes with it: booking direct gives you just the room, while booking through a preferred-partner advisor adds benefits like an upgrade, breakfast for two and a usable property credit at no extra cost.

Do these programs charge a fee or require a membership?

No. There is no membership fee and no minimum spend, and Stars Desk does not add a service fee. The added benefits are funded by the participating hotel as part of its relationship with select advisors, which is why most of these programs are invitation-only for advisors rather than something travelers join directly.

Which luxury hotel programs does Stars Desk offer?

Stars Desk is an authorized partner across most major luxury programs, including Four Seasons Preferred Partner, Hyatt Privé, Rosewood Elite, Marriott STARS, American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts, Mandarin Oriental Fan Club, The Peninsula PenClub, Belmond Bellini Club, Dorchester Diamond Club, Aman, Auberge Resorts, 1 Hotels, Hilton for Luxury, Accor HERA and Virtuoso - covering thousands of properties worldwide.

What benefits are typically included?

Most programs include a complimentary room upgrade subject to availability, daily breakfast for two, a property credit for dining, spa or activities (commonly USD 100), priority early check-in and late check-out, a personalized welcome amenity, and VIP recognition throughout the stay. Exact benefits and credit amounts vary by program and property.

Do I still earn hotel loyalty points and elite status?

Yes. Preferred-partner rates are paid, qualifying stays, so you continue to earn the brand's loyalty points, elite-night credit and promotion bonuses, and any elite status you hold applies on top of the program perks. Your advisor links the booking to your existing loyalty account.

Can a preferred-partner program be combined with other discounts or promotions?

Often the program perks combine with active hotel offers such as third-night-free or seasonal packages. They generally do not combine with non-refundable prepaid rates, member or AAA discounts, corporate rates, third-party rates or award (points) stays. Your advisor confirms what stacks for your dates.

Are these programs available for family or pet-friendly stays?

Yes. Most programs apply to family travel and prioritize connecting rooms when available; breakfast is usually for two guests per room, so booking multiple rooms covers a larger party. Pet policies are set by each property - your advisor confirms pet-friendly options and any fees before booking.

How far in advance should I book?

For peak seasons, holidays and the most in-demand resorts, booking three to six months ahead gives the best room availability and the strongest upgrade odds. Many programs apply on shorter lead times too; for flexible-rate bookings you can often secure benefits close to arrival, subject to availability.

Can I use any credit card?

For most programs, yes - any credit card works. The exception is American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts, which requires The Platinum Card or Centurion. All other programs covered by Stars Desk are card-agnostic.

How do I book a luxury hotel with VIP status?

Send Stars Desk your destination, dates and party size. We confirm which program applies, the included benefits and the rate, then book directly with the hotel and attach the VIP perks to your reservation. You receive a secure payment link and the booking appears in your loyalty account with benefits noted.

What is the cancellation policy on preferred-partner bookings?

Because the program matches the hotel's flexible rate, the cancellation terms are the hotel's own standard flexible-rate policy - there is no extra restriction from the program itself. Your advisor confirms the exact deadline for your property and dates before you pay.

Are airport transfers or concierge services included?

It depends on the program and property. Some programs and individual hotels include transfers or experience credits; concierge support is handled by your advisor, who can arrange transfers, dining, spa and experiences before and during your stay. Ask Stars Desk what is included for a specific hotel.

Is it worth using a preferred-partner program?

For a flexible cash booking at a luxury hotel, almost always - you pay the same rate as booking direct and gain an upgrade, breakfast and a property credit on top. It is less relevant only on points redemptions or deeply discounted non-refundable rates, where the perks do not apply. In every other case there is no downside to booking through the program.
